Summary Top
Developing an inter-regional network of actors and agencies working for the regeneration of market towns and for their contribution to the surrounding rural hinterlands and to regional identity. A range of measures to achieve more balanced spatial development; increased co-operation and joint action on sustainable urban development. Note - ‘market town’ means a small town which historically served a rural hinterland and which developed to meet historical socio-economic needs. It may or may not have an active market in the present day.
Objectives Top
1.Creation of a network for planning , exchange and promotion. 2. Social, physical and economic revitalisation. 3. Socio-economic benefits including: Employment and income in the revitalised fabric; Increased tax income from employment and spending; Reduction in welfare payments for formally underemployed; Tourism income; Stimulus for development; and Sustainable development.
Outcomes Top
Benefits from the project would develop from the following core outcomes: Places that capitalise upon and maintain their distinctive character, heritage and environment; Vibrant sustainable communities; Delivering economic, social and environmental revitalisation of towns through improvement to the physical infrastructure; Creation of permanent networks to prepare joint strategies for small and medium size towns; Promotion and management of tourism services; Promoting shared assets and joint information marketing; and Better linkages amongst universities.
