Summary Top
Fast HST shuttles running on existing railway lines can link regional centres to main centres. This can provide regional centres with access to high quality international connections if the shuttles are timetabled to connect with the HST services. In addition, feedering from regional subcentres increases the transport value of the AmsterdamBerlin line. Two possible shuttle services are feasible: from the North (GroningenZwolleTwente/Osnabruck) and from the South (BreaArnhem/NijmegenTwente/Osnabruck). An important element in the project is the shuttle from the south (province of Noord-Brabant) via Arnhem to Twente, linking the Eastern Netherlands with the Southern HST line.
Objectives Top
The shuttle is one of the elements in the province’s accessibility profile. It’s objectives are: 1. Improved accessibility of the Twente region in East Netherlands by public transport. 2. Access of the region Twente to network of HST. 3. Strengthen inner-city functions of the city of Hengelo. 4. Stimulate multi-modal transport.
Outcomes Top
1.Demonstrate the feasibility of a shuttle service between Arnhem/Nijmegen and Twente/Osnabruck 2. Draw up an implementation programme based on the results of the study.
