Summary Top

Focus is on (preferably) coherent attempts by various actors in cross-border urban networks to improve their (cross-border) economic performance, which so far for most of these networks is pretty bad, due to their geographically marginal location in the respective national urban systems. Comparative analysis of the spatial-economic structure of these networks and their recent development, is the basis for understanding measures with respect to cross-border education/training, labour market, knowledge centers’ cooperation, and institutional cooperation (Chambers of commerce, local authorities etc.), as well as the infrastructure situation of the respective urban networks

Objectives Top

To generate applicable cross-border measures improving the economic performance of (mostly smaller) national borders crossing urban networks. The exchange of experiences may help various actors in their own situation.

Outcomes Top

A. Specific applicable measures that will improve the urban networks’ economic performance, and thus contribute to diminish regional disparities. B. A better understanding of the economic functioning of cross-border urban networks and their economy by all actors involved (deeper involvement of civic society).
