Summary Top

Large mammals have lost vast areas of suitable habitat in Northwest Europe. The project will describe current distribution of red deer as focus species and will present opportunities to enlarge the are suitable for this large mammal by nature restoration.

Objectives Top

The key objectives are to visualise current distribution of red deer in Northwest Europe and the spatial coherence of their habitat. Based on energy demands of red deer a map will be presented of possible key populations of red deer and the chances to enlarge the spatial coherence between these areas. This way an ecological network for large mammals will be presented.

Outcomes Top

A concrete result will be a map representing the ecological network for large mammals in Northwest Europe. The project will focus on two main areas and describe which measures will have to be taken in order to create new large mammal habitat with special attention for infrastructure and agriculture.
