Summary Top
The project will develop the concept of a maritime centre as a focus for heritage, training and employment skills, and technology development in support of the local economy. This is set against a background of a severe decline in traditional industries and uses in the Colne Estuary, and the consequent need to find new uses and new jobs for the area. Feasibility studies will establish how the links between heritage, training and technology will work. In particular the role of heritage craft will be investigated as a training resource, as will links with local training providers and the University research sector as a means of stimulating innovation and new product development in local businesses.
Objectives Top
To promote economic regeneration through the formation of a maritime centre, and the development of associated tourism, training facilities, and technology centre.
