Summary Top
 
The project will involve: creation of cross-sector sub-regional partnerships led by local authorities; development and integration of housing market models, looking at demand, supply, tenure changes, spatial distribution, sustainability, etc; creation of a better understanding of city-region and urban-rural relationships; preparation of formal or informal sub-regional housing policies and programmes; integration of these into other key strategy area.
 
Objectives Top
 
The overall aim is to meet the 'quality of life' aspirations of residents in a sustainable way through a well-informed housing policy by: improving the understanding by public authorities and others of housing markets in a rapidly changing social and economic environment; examining the usefulness of existing and new forms of housing market models; investigating the integration of sustainable development principles into planning for housing; establish improved dialogue between town or city authorities and their neighbours.
 
Outcomes Top
 
The results in each partner region would be: creation of public-private-community sub-regional partnership; publication of an integrated approach to housing market analysis, including the relationship to economic growth and decline; publication of advice on incorporating sustainable development principles into all aspects of planning for housing; direct inputs in to housing and regeneration investment programmes, spatial plans and other regional and sub-regional strategies; although not funded by the project, the development of appropriate forms and locations of housing to meet the needs of existing and potential residents.
