INTERREG IVB : we have lift off !

The North West Europe Programme launched the new INTERREG IVB phase of project funding and celebrated its achievements under INTERREG IIIB at a major conference in Lille on 5-6 March 2007.

The event was attended by over 650 politicians, project partners and other stakeholders involved in transnational cooperation from across the region. In a video interview on the first day European Commissioner for Regional Development Danuta Hübner expressed satisfaction with the performance of the North West Europe Programme “ It’s one of the best that we have. We have many good projects in this region and they are very diverse… we are very satisfied from the perspective of Brussels with how it has been managed so far.”

“I believe cooperation within Europe brings huge added value. One of the wealths of cooperation is the wealth of experience we have accumulated so far” added Mrs Hübner. “ We need this cooperation” she urged delegates “It is a very important element of European policy. Please work together. Also it is important … to look back and to see there is something to be proud of. We have achieved a lot, we have a lot to share with others”.

Other keynote speakers include EU Committee of Regions President Michel Delebarre and Jan Olbrycht, MEP and Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Regional Development committee. The action in the main chamber was complemented outside by a large range of 65 project stands in which partners shared and displayed their work and results. The second day was dedicated to developing potential project ideas for funding in 2007-2013. It was equally well attended and gave plenty of opportunities for delegates to meet new partners, share ideas and prepare good proposals for the first call of the IVB programme.
